About the performers:

Carys Sutherland:


Horn player Carys Sutherland began playing at the age of 10 and has since performed at major concert halls and festivals across North America and Europe. With the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America, she played at esteemed venues in 5 countries including Carnegie Hall, the BBC Proms, the Elbphilharmonie, and the Royal Concertgebouw. Additionally, with the Interlochen Arts Academy Orchestra, she has performed with soloist Sir James Galway and toured to the New World Center in Miami.
As a soloist, Carys has won 2 National YoungArts awards and was the winner of the United States Navy Band Young Artist Solo Competition in 2020. She studied with Corbin Wagner at Interlochen Arts Academy, where she graduated with academic honors and a Fine Arts award. In the fall of 2020, she will begin her Bachelor of Music degree at The Juilliard School as a proud recipient of a Kovner Fellowship.
 

Zachary Costello:

Hailing from Maryland, Zachary Costello is a rising saxophonist and artist who attended the Interlochen Arts Academy to study classical saxophone. Most recently, Zachary won the non-strings division of the U.S. Army Young Artist Competition and was named a finalist in the 2020 North American Saxophone Alliance (NASA) High School Solo Competition. He was also named a 2019 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist in Classical Music. He has performed at the New World Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Interlochen Center for the Arts. He will be continuing his musical studies at Michigan State University in the fall of 2020 under Professor Joseph Lulloff.  Zachary started high school at Mt. Hebron High School in Ellicott City, MD before transferring to Interlochen Arts Academy for his junior and senior year, where he studied with Dr. Matthew Schlomer. When in Maryland, Zachary works with MSG Christopher Blossom of the U.S. Army Field Band. His previous instructors include: Dr. Eyal Bor, Gregory Thompkins, and Troy Atkins. Throughout high school, Zachary achieved various accolades including being chosen as the Senior Performer for the Commencement of the Interlochen Arts Academy Class of 2020. Zachary was selected as a finalist for an open saxophone position in the U.S. Army Field Band. He was named the winner of the Peabody Preparatory Wind Orchestra Concerto Competition in 2018 and selected as a member of the 2017 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Wind Ensemble. Zachary has performed in masterclasses for Dr. Otis Murphy, Dr. Stephen Page, Dr. Timothy McAllister, H2 Quartet, Dr. Chien-Kwan Lin, Professor Zachary Shemon, and Professor Joe Burgstaller. He has attended several summer workshops including the Great Plains Saxophone Intensive and Workshop, the Interlochen Arts Campand Institute, the Indiana University Summer Saxophone Academy, the Eastman Summer Saxophone Institute, and the Frostburg State University Summer Music Academy. Zachary will be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Saxophone Performance at Michigan State University and hopes to become a professional musician.
